There's a whole lot of rules in the occult universe about what sort of timing you "should" use when planning a magical operation. While these things have their uses, and certainly grant a sense of organization to magical operations, the timing of magick is not a hard and fast rule.
For one, there's all sorts of ways to get around timing. You can rephrase your intent. Instead of drawing money during a waxing moon, you can banish poverty during a waning moon, for example. Other ways to get around it is to use corresponding planetary days and hours, your own astrological chart, the rising and falling hands on a clock, the position of the sun in the sky, or the auspicious "witching hour" somewhere between midnight and 3 a.m.
I've come to believe that timing is a sort of magical game that practitioners play with their minds and that any sort of "requirements" for timing are usually to give a sense of structure and limitation to the practitioner when it is proper for the practitioner to be limited in some way. It is not always conducive to those of us who have a sense of wildness when it comes to our magick, like myself.
I don't always work in circles, but when I do, it is not to put a barrier between me and the spirits I work with. It is not to keep me "safe". It is my staging area, where I am, in the sense of my magical microcosm, the center of the Universe. Atah Malkuth Veh Geburah, Veh Gedulah, Le Olahm: "Unto me, unto this microcosm, the power and the glory, forever. Amen." Not unto some big chief Lord God almighty upstairs. Unto ME. I am stepping into the role of God of the Universe. I am in charge. I am not the small, petty, insignificant me. I am my Higher Self. The world stands tiny beneath my feet. Space and time have no meaning. All space is here, all time is now. I command the elements. Angels and demons and gods attend at my invitation and are honored to do so. This is true of every magician, every witch, every sorcerer, every mystic, every human being in existence... YOU have immense power within you and if you choose, the very heavens will move at your command, if you but realize a fraction of your potential, standing in the power of your Higher Self.
I'm not saying throw it all away... all the rules, all the timing restrictions, all the exercises, all the good advice. What I'm saying is that magick means that the Laws of the Universe can be bent to your Will, and you need not restrict and surrender yourself to the limitations of timing unless it is fortuitous for you to do so in the moment.
